The Plan
Learn about our plan to improve educational spaces for Cook County students.
Using community feedback from stakeholders and community listening sessions, Cook County Public Schools has developed a plan to invest $36.78 million to improve safety, accessibility, and educational adequacy at our PreK-12 building. The proposed investments will be presented to voters during a bond referendum on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The investment plan will be proposed as three ballot questions. Each ballot question asks voters to consider investments for a different part of our district’s facilities and grounds. Question Two is contingent upon Question One passing, and Question Three is contingent upon both Question One and Question Two passing.
The floor plans and improvements shown below summarize the scope of the proposed investment plan for our schools. Specific square footage and designs are subject to change to ensure that the plan remains within budget and in alignment with our district's goals. If voters approve one or multiple bond questions, additional community/stakeholder work sessions will be held to develop the final design of renovations and additions.
Question One
Question One requests $24.18 million for upgraded spaces at the PreK-12 school building. If approved, this funding would be used to build a more secure main entrance and centralized student services center, upgrade the cafeteria, common areas, library, bathrooms, select classrooms, and add a gymnasium, fitness room, locker rooms, health/training room, an ADA-compliant playground for grades K-5, and add solar panels to reduce energy costs. The question would also complete deferred maintenance such as the replacement of aging air conditioning units, water heaters, windows, doors, flooring and exterior pavements.

Question Two
Question Two requests $9.16 million for improvements to our school site and our district’s athletics and arts spaces. This funding would install a running track and synthetic turf surface, an activities parking lot, additional seating and controls for performing arts spaces, an activities parking lot, and updated outdoor learning spaces.
Both the football field and baseball field would receive updated lighting and ADA-compliant seating. At the football field, additional spectator amenities such as concessions, restrooms, and analog scoreboards would also be included.
Question Two would also construct a new bus shop for vehicle storage and maintenance and an access road to improve access to the drop-off loop and reduce bus traffic on nearby roads.

Question Three
Question Three requests $3.45 million to add an additional court to the second gymnasium included in Question One to support physical education, athletics, and community recreation. This gymnasium would be directly connected to our primary gymnasium.
